2014 Update

Awoyaya Primary Health Centre recorded 110 antenatal patients in the first clinic of 2014. This is excluding general outpatient attendance for the day.

The Foundations’ main plan for 2014 is to support the community and local government in completing the extension for PHC.

The delivery and post natal rooms will be moved to the extension when completed. We also plan to provide a baby resuscitaire and essential consumables for the new delivery room.

The Foundation is celebrating 5 years of service!

The Foundation is 5yrs old!  We are grateful to God, groups and individual that have supported us in various ways.

To mark the occasion, The Foundation extended support to another primary health centre within local government.

There are 10 main primary health centres (PHC) in Ibeju-Lekki local government of Lagos state three of which offer 24hr service to the public.

Orimedu PHC is purpose built and serves a large number of communities around it. Apart from maternal and infant welfare clinics, the PHC provides 24hr general outpatient service.

Averagely, 20 – 30 babies are delivered monthly. Ante natal attendance has increased since the introduction of free care and delivery to further ensure that every woman has access to professional care during pregnancy and delivery.

The Foundation went to Orimedu PHC officially on Tuesday, 01/06/2014.   We were received by the chief nursing officer (CNO) and her staff. Some of them were aware of the Foundations’ support for Awoyaya PHC 1.

Foundations’ Support for Motherless Twins

Amongst infants brought in for immunisation were a 4 day old motherless twins, boy and girl.

We were drawn to these infants when we noticed the overwhelmed expression on their 19yr old sister who was accompanied by their aunt. They were both worried as the babies were not feeding well. Support and advise was given. The Foundation took up the challenge of the  twins welfare and follow – up.

We visited the twins the following day in their village which was approximately 25mins drive away from the health centre. We were introduced to members of the family and pledged support as much as possible.

A second visit to the twins took place few days later with various items to support their care.

Regular contact and follow-up is being made to ensure that basic needs and health checks are met.

Safer Births.

Awoyaya and Orimedu Primary Health Centres (PHC) deliver on average sixty babies monthly.

To enable midwives manage intrapartum care actively, the Foundation supplied the two PHCs with sterile, individually packed disposable urethral catheters in October.

This essential medical consumable will reduce delays and risks associated with labour, delivery and post delivery care. Furthermore, the sterile catheters will enhance control of infection

Well managed, the quantity supplied should meet the needs of the two centres for 18months.

Update on the Twins.

The Foundation has continued supporting the motherless twins with regular supply of baby food, bottled water and home visits. They are both well and attend the PHC for health checks and immunisation.

They are both still being cared for by their grandmother with support from their aunty.

Here they are with their grandmother at 6mths!
